An eye examination involves assessing your vision for glasses or contact lenses, screening for diseases and disorders, and discussing the results with you. It includes eye pressure checks, evaluations for cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, and high-resolution retinal photographs.
Our practice utilises the latest technology, including OCT scanning (Optical Coherence Tomography) for 3D eye assessments, Corneal Topography to map the curvature of the cornea, and Visual Field Examinations.
We offer reduced examination fees for students, Gold Card holders, and children aged 12 and under.
Children’s Examinations
We highly recommend that children have regular eye exams to ensure normal eye and visual development. We examine children aged 5 and above. For younger children, an appointment with an ophthalmologist is often required. However, if you have a prescription from your ophthalmologist, we are more than happy to make up the glasses for you.
Enable Spectacle Subsidy
If you have a current community services card, you will automatically qualify for the enable spectacle subsidy, which is available once per year until the child is 16 years old. The subsidy will contribute towards the cost of the eye examination and glasses. Please ask our team for further information.
We are one of the few places in New Zealand to stock and sell Tomato glasses. These frames are a perfect mix of durability, great fit, light-weight, and a style that suits active kids from age 0 and up.
Advanced Diagnostic Technology
To provide the highest level of care, we utilise cutting-edge diagnostic equipment:
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
The OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-sectional pictures of your retina. With OCT, each of the retina’s distinctive layers can be seen, allowing our optometrists to map and measure their thickness. These measurements help with the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of retinal diseases and conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
Eidon Retinal Camera
The Eidon is a high-resolution retinal imaging system that provides true colour, wide-field images of the retina. This advanced laser technology allows us to capture detailed images of the retina, enabling early detection and monitoring of retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macula degeneration, and other retinal pathologies. The Eidon’s imaging capabilities also assist in patient education by providing clear visual evidence of retinal health.
Visual Fields
Our visual field machine assesses the full horizontal and vertical range of sensitivity of your vision. This machine is essential for diagnosing and monitoring conditions that affect your peripheral vision, such as glaucoma. By systematically testing your visual field, we can detect early signs of glaucoma and other neurological conditions, ensuring timely intervention and treatment.
Non-Contact Tonometry
Non-contact tonometry is a quick and painless way to measure the pressure inside your eyes known as intraocular pressure (IOP). Elevated IOP is a major risk factor for glaucoma. This device uses a puff of air to measure the resistance of your cornea to indentation, providing an essential diagnostic tool for early detection of glaucoma without the need for eye drops or direct contact with your eye.
