Comprehensive Eye Examinations

An examination consists of testing your eyes for the need of glasses or contact lenses, checking for disease or disorders, and taking the time to discuss the findings with you. It includes an eye pressure check, assessment of the eye for cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration, and also includes high resolution retinal photographs.

We have the latest technology including OCT scanning (Optical Coherence Tomography for a 3D assessment of the eye), Corneal Topography (mapping the curve of the front of the eye the cornea), and Computerised Visual Field Examinations.

We offer reduced examination fees for students, gold card holders, and children aged 12 and under.

Children’s Examinations

We highly recommend any child over the age of 18 months has a regular eye exam to ensure the eye and visual development is normal. We will examine children of all ages, although children younger than five years old often require an appointment with an ophthalmologist. However, if you have a prescription from your ophthalmologist we are more than happy to make up the glasses for you.

Enable Spectacle Subsidy

If you have a current Community Services Card you will automatically qualify for the Enable Spectacle Subsidy that is available once per year until the child is 16 years old. The subsidy will cover the cost of the eye examination and in most cases two pairs of glasses as well. Please ask our any of our team for further information.
We are one of only 3 practices in New Zealand to stock and sell Tomato Glasses. These frames are a perfect mix of durability, great fit, light weight & a style that suits active kids from age 0 up.

Tips for Eye Health

Nutrition

Incorporating omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish like salmon, mackerel, and trout, as well as sources like flaxseed, can greatly benefit your eye health. Additionally, including a variety of green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and collard greens, along with colorful fruits and vegetables like carrots, berries, and bell peppers, provides essential vitamins and antioxidants crucial for maintaining optimal vision and overall eye wellness.

UV Protection

Shielding your eyes from harmful UV light is essential in preventing eye diseases and maintaining long-term eye health. Wearing sunglasses with tinted lenses when outdoors, especially during peak sunlight hours, effectively reduces exposure to damaging UV rays.

Regular Eye Exams

Scheduling regular eye exams with a qualified optometrist is key to early detection and prevention of potential eye problems. Comprehensive eye exams not only assess visual acuity but also evaluate overall eye health, detecting conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration in their early stages when treatment is most effective. A routine eye test is recommended every two years.
